10 Ways to Reverse Holiday Weight Gain—Fast!

Don't beat yourself up

We all know that a big part of the holidays is catching up with family and friends and eating comfort food like Mom’s stuffing. And that’s OK, says Michelle May, M.D., author of Eat What You Love, Love What You Eat. “Enjoying the holidays and being too busy to work out comes with the territory, and it’s nothing to shame yourself about.” Accept that and move forward.

Do Keep Eating

After binge eating for the past month, you may feel like skipping meals entirely. But that will only make you hungrier, says Louis J. Aronne, M.D., author of The Skinny: On Losing Weight Without Being Hungry, which will make it harder to stick with a healthy eating program. The day after a calorie blowout, make sure to have protein in your breakfast—eggs, cottage cheese or yogurt—to satisfy your appetite through the day.

Do Keep Moving

The extent of your movement during the holidays may have been limited to raising your fork, but it’s important to get moving now. Exercise not only burns calories but also puts you in a positive mind-set, which can help you make smarter food choices, says Joy Bauer, the Todayshow’s nutritionist and author ofYour Inner Skinny: Four Steps to Thin Forever.

Don't eat the white stuff!

Cut out white bread, crackers and bagels from your diet. When your body isn’t used to the extra salt and sugar, it holds on to a lot of water, says Bauer. “Once you get rid of that water weight, your energy levels come back up.” Even better news: You’ll start to feel a difference in less than 48 hours!

Do put your goals on paper

Give yourself a specific goal, and write it down, says fitness expertFrank Sepe. “Once you write it down, it becomes real and verifiable.” Just saying you want to lose five or 10 pounds isn’t specific enough; saying you want to lose five pounds by February 1 is. And as long as you’re in the writing mode, make sure you write down all your workouts and what you eat. You’ll be surprised by how much a commitment to logging your meals reduces mindless eating.

Don't forget your vegetables

Vegetables are natural appetite suppressants, says Aronne. Bread, on the other hand, is an appetite stimulant, which is why you’ll usually find it on the table in restaurants.

Don't keep holiday left overs

After the holidays, get rid of all the holiday food. “If you’re going to lose weight, you have to get rid of the temptation,” says Sepe. Replace the cookies and fruitcake with fruit and healthy snacks.

Do plan, plan, plan

Deviating from your get-healthy goals is harder when you plan out your workouts and meals. “If you know you’re going to be on the go, bring your own food,” says Sepe. Carry some fruit or an energy bar when you’re running errands, so you don’t hit the drive-through. If you know you get hungry later in the evening, plan for a small postdinner snack; then brush your teeth and “close” your kitchen.

Do hit the bottle

The water bottle, that is. Valerie Orsoni, founder of the weight-loss program lebootcamp.com, says that most of the time we think we’re hungry, we’re actually thirsty. In addition to helping you feel fuller, water also helps flush out the “bad” stuff you’ve been eating as you transition back to a healthier lifestyle.

Do be patient

Changing your diet also changes your body’s weight-regulating mechanisms, says Aronne. This makes you hungrier, and it makes it more difficult to stick to your healthy diet.

Nail Trend:

It’s time to ditch the sheer color. Although we loved the low-key champagne-color nails that Vanessa Hudgens wore to the 2008 Golden Globes, this year, nails will be bigger and brighter than ever! From Beyoncé-approved Minx metallic nails to suede polishes and loud neon hues like the one Brittany Gerena is flashing, nails in 2010 are all about expressing you. Hair Trend:

Teeny-tiny hippie braids were everywhere in ‘09—especially on Lauren Conrad, who seemed to work ‘em 24/7. To make your braids seem super fresh, squeeze and scrunch them to make them look sexy and carefree—just like you!

(Or at least give ‘em a day off.) Save the face-covering hair accessories for next Halloween and try a ribbon-accented updo like models wore on the Zac Posen runway. The key is to keep it sophisticated—so whether you choose a shade that’s pastel or vibrant, keep the rest of the look neutral with a sheer gloss and bronzer for makeup that’s more dynamic and lessDynasty. One more tip? For more intensity, says makeup pro Pat McGrath, wet shadows to get richer hues.

Lip Trend:

Wearing your sunglasses at night and sporting a dramatic, dark lip does look pretty badass—but that’s been done (and done well) by Rihanna. Now a fun fuchsia pout is in—like this electric shade seen at Marc by Marc Jacobs. A pop of color makes just as much noise as the vampy black gloss that made its debut on the fall 2009 runways, but it’s 10 times cheerier. For bright lips that last, makeup artist Pat McGrath, who created fluorescent fire-engine red pouts at Prada, suggests using a stain (like CoverGirl Outlast Lipstain) under your lipstick or gloss for “boldness and staying power.”

We have the scoop on spring 2010's hottest beauty trends. There's some fun stuff here, so have at it. As for us at About, we just can't wait to fish out the sandals. You?

1. Loose buns are classy and timeless. Ponytails are also fabulous. Check out these fabulous ponytails and how to style them. 2. Rummage around for red...lipstick that is. Red lips continue to be classy for spring. Just remember to keep your eye makeup light.

3. Long lashes are big. A huge trend (& one we aren't signing up for, thank you very much) are permanent false lashes applied individually. They last a couple weeks & are especially big on the West Coast. Not ready to go the glued route? Layer on the mascara. Several coats should do you. (Don't believe the old beauty 'no' that you should only apply 2 coats of mascara. That 'don't' is now a 'do' -- you just can't get lush, thick lashes with only two coats. 4. Don't overbronze. Fake tanned skin is in again, but don't go overboard ala 'Dancing With the Stars' George Hamilton. Instead, try layering your fake tan with a light tanning creme set with a tinted moisturizer or a bronzing powder. The best thing about bronzed skin? You can go light on the rest of your makeup. We love bronzed skin paired with a pink lip gloss & mascara.

5. Long waves are still hot, while straightening irons still are not. Ironed hair has been out now for a couple seasons & it stays out for spring. Instead, opt for straight, but full hair with a few loose waves you can get via Velcro rollers or winding hair around a full-barreled curling iron. Think your hair is too long? Don't worry, as long as you keep it trim, super long hair is in. (Have you seen Gwyneth Paltrow's hair lately? It keeps growing & growing & growing...).

6. Spring is all about shimmer. We love the look of shimmer on eyes & cheeks, especially on tanned skin. Here's a how-to on getting the glow.

7. Coral is not just for Floridian retirees. We are sure this comment is going to result in hate mail flooding our inbox, but isn't it true that when you think about coral lipstick you picture a tanned, wrinkly retiree? Coral is in this spring for women of all ages. 'O' magazine trumps it as the perfect shade when pink feels cliched & red is just too vampy. The deal with coral is to stay away from mattes & opt instead for glosses & lipsticks that you apply with your finger (the stick itself can make the color too heavy). You want it to look as if you just ate a piece of fruit, according to 'O'. Okay then! P.S. Coral looks especially great with a tan. And try it on your toes.

Bras, corsets, tap pants, and briefs were exposed all over the Spring runways, with unexpected designers like Akris‘ Albert Kriemler joining lingerie lovers such as Jean Paul Gaultier and John Galliano at the panty party. No doubt about it, innerwear as outerwear is one of the season’s top trends. But does the look work off the catwalk? Can you really show up to a meeting dressed as Madonna in her Like a Virgin phrase? We asked the experts.

“Naturally, I’m not hoping to see a lot of inappropriate bare skin and literal lingerie showing in the workplace,” says Bergdorf Goodman’s Linda Fargo. “I’m foreseeing a spike in lace-edge slips emerging from hemlines and sheer, pretty hosiery again.” However, if you are thinking literal, “the best way to wear lingerie is to take it out of context,” explains Fabiola Beracasa, who’s been known to rock a black corset over a white tee. “And make sure it’s delicate and expensive-looking, not trashy,” says stylist Kate Young. Her Spring pick? Stella McCartney’s plunge-front nude lace halter. A couple of hard and fast rules: Exposed elastic bra straps are a no-no, only silk will do (Jean Yu); and if you do experiment with transparency, don’t leave home without a jacket (Kelly Cutrone). And, finally, this from a master of the seductive arts, Domenico Dolce: “Don’t be too audacious. Save something for the imagination.”

Flirty tops that flatter your figure type!

The key to wearing clothing that looks and feels great is to select pieces that celebrate your curves by choosing styles to flatter your figure types. Our Designers have some great recommendations to help you stay style savvy while making the most of what you have.

Enhancing the Bust

Having a small chest is not a bad thing. It allows you to play around with so many different necklines. Tops with bust accents, ruching, ruffles and pin tucks are great to enhance what you do have. Just be careful not to go overboard. It's always best to choose classy styles with one elegant accent at a time. Define a waist

Creating an hourglass figure is all about illusion. Stay away from structured materials. Instead select stretch flowy fabrics that work with your natural curves. Ruching is really big this year and it is one of the best styles to define your waist. You will also want to go with fixed wrapping tops. I say fixed so that you won't be adjusting the wrap all day and night. Plus if the wrapping style is fixed then it offers you more support and a better fit. This terrific top has ruched waist line and is perfect for layering under a business suit. The color is great as an alternative to black. Tone down cleavage

To de-emphasize a busty figure, choose styles that have shape in all the right places. Never wear baggy shapeless tops as they will just make you look bigger. Soft v-necks work well because they follow the curves of the body without accentuating them. Just avoid going to low cut as this will not give you any support and will probably show more than you bargain for. This ruched style with a wrap front and soft v neckline is a perfect choice to minimize a large cleavage while creating a feminine curvy shape to the body. Hide a Tummy

Make your extra pounds melt away. If you are thicker in the middle and need to hide your tummy then choose styles that clear the waist. Fall Beauty 2009 - The 3 best smoky eye looks..

These looks are sure to catch your eye. Put your Fall foot forward on 2009 makeup paired with a terrific black cocktail dress to accompany you to any event. Get the hottest smoky eye looks for fall with these easy to follow steps...

Teal

This look is amazing with all complexions and eye colors. Even brown eyed girls with olive skin tones need look no further. This look is really sultry and enhances an almond eye shape.

Get The Look

1. & 2. Apply two shades of eye shadow: a deep pine like Cle de Peau Beaute Satin eye color in Emerald No. 109 on the lids and an iridescent teal hue like Bobbi Brown eye shadow in Bash Metallic ($20) in the creases and along the lower lash lines."

The key is to blend to death," says makeup artist Mariel Barrera, who created these looks on Seyfried using these products. "That way the two colors will melt together and you'll get a nice smoky effect."

The Dress:
